Nigerians have taken to social media to totally criticize the activities of some yet-to-be-identified Fulani herdsmen who were seen destroying a farmland.

In a now viral video shared on social media, some Fulani herdsmen were seen destroying and uprooting farm produce from a cassava farm to feed their cattle.

Our correspondent who observed the video clip noticed the herdsmen armed to the teeth, alone on the farm with their cattle, destroying the yet-to-be-harvested cassava produce.

At the time they herdsmen were seen destroying the farmland, the owner of the farm was nowhere to be seen.

The video clip comes amid calls for the enforcement of a law banning open grazing in the country.

Many quarters argue that the recurrent destruction of farmlands by marauding herdsmen is the major reason for the prevalent attack on communities by suspected herdsmen.

Reacting to the clip of the herdsmen destroying the farmland, Nigerians in various social media comments condemned the act while urging law enforcement officers to bring the perpetrators to justice.

This publication highlights below how Nigerians reacted to the video clip.

Goidman Probitatis, ”If the community where this is happening decides to retaliate in the same manner, the entire Arewa and the security agencies will say they were just passing with their cows, and massive arrests will be made.

“Nigeria is a crime scene and until the families of those nefarious criminals in power are made to be the victims of these crimes, there may be no end to it.”

Yemi Tunde, ”One day will be one day. Your overconfidence will be your downfall when the whole tribe comes for you. Both cows and owners will be sent to Allah. The Nigerian government cannot protect you forever. It will happen.”

Princewill Obaji, ”And you all are wondering why food is expensive in this country. Some farmers are paying bandits monthly to allow them to go to their farms.

”Those living in the village or town where Fulani herdsmen pass through don’t usually sleep well at night, as there may be an attack at any time.

”A sick cow died on one farmer’s farm, these men orchestrated an attack that sacked the community and neighbouring communities, killing people and burning homes.

”In the 21st century we still live in a country where cows are allowed to roam major roads in our cities.

”Cows are meant to be raised in ranches, not made to walk the length and breadth of this country in search of grasses.”

Enyah Obanyi, ”They think they are first-class citizens. None of their leaders will condemn this animalistic act now, but when someone who has had enough does the needful, you hear them making noise up and down.”

Olabiyi Teniola, ”They are confident because they know the government will not go against them. If the farmer retaliates now, the farmer will still get the blame. Such a messed-up country.”

Oladokun Ogunwole, ”When Buhari was the president, these so-called Fulani herders were terrorising the whole country, making life unbearable for Nigerian farmers, but now that we have a southerner as president, are we still going to be suffering without the government interventions?”

Oluwole Julius, ”The guts to video this barbaric act and then upload it – what kind of mindset are these guys moving with, dragging the country backwards? Very useless people we are living with.”

Shedrach Chiroma, ”They intentionally make this video out of wickedness, as the worst should happen; don’t use the words spotted or allegedly for something that is obvious.”

Akpos Uwerevu, ”When a cattle becomes more important than another human’s hard work, their leaders won’t come out to speak against this now.”

Janet Anvah, ”The day I become the president of this great nation, anyone who can’t keep their cow in a place and feed them will sell them and open a provision store! We, the farmers, are going through a lot at the hands of some of these herdsmen.”

Esther Chianugoaekperem, ”It sad to see that this is what happens in some communities in this country including mine. When the owners of the farm want to retaliate, they will be butchered like an animal. My childhood friend was one of their victims last week. They killed him in cold blood, and nothing happened.”

Godwin Adoli, ”Why can’t the government end this mess? A serious punishable law should be enacted to punish anyone guilty of this mess to end it once and for all because it’s getting out of hand.”

Oluwatobi Agbodolah, ”The security agent and government officials will not see this one. When farmers are determined to defend or retaliate, there will be noise.”
