The Niger State Government has asked the State High Court to resolve the shutdown order amicably with Badeggi FM Radio.
The state governor, Mohammed Bago, accused the radio station of public incitement and ordered its termination.
He also directed the State Commissioner of Police and the Commissioner for Homeland Security to do a profile of the radio station’s owner.
Following this occurrence, which received outrage from the media and civil society, Badeggi Radio took the State government to court to challenge the order.
Philip Emmanuel, the radio station’s counsel, filed a case at the Minna High Court to enforce its fundamental rights.
At the resumed hearing in the lawsuit filed on August 5, 2025, the defendants’ counsel, Jacob Usman SAN, announced that an out-of-court solution was being sought.
Usman told the court that he discussed with the plaintiffs’ counsel the necessity to address the dispute outside of court in the interest of peace and the general welfare of the people of the State.
The defence counsel said, “I have had a discussion with my clients, the Governor of Niger State and the Attorney General of Niger State, that we need to resolve the matter, and he agreed.
“And the counsel to the Plaintiffs also agreed that the matter should be resolved in the best interest of his clients. We have informed the Court as such.
“We have taken a date for the 3rd of September 2025 to report on our out-of-court settlement,” Usman told the newsman shortly after the court session.
