The prompt arrival of police officers in Akure’s Ijoka Area, the capital of Ondo State, was unable to stop the lynching of a young guy suspected of participating in “yahoo plus” after he killed four people.

The unidentified young man was travelling down the road in his Toyota when he abruptly veered off the road and struck his victims, who were riding on okadas, or business motorcycles.

Witnesses claimed that sympathisers who raced to the driver’s help discovered various fetish objects inside the car and became more convinced that the driver was involved in ritual activity, also known as “yahoo plus.”

The sympathisers descended on the driver and beat him to death after discovering fetish items inside the vehicle.

Some persons were looking for tyres to set the driver and his car ablaze when policemen arrived and rescued him half dead.

Ondo policeman spokesman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya, said the suspect was already dead by the time the police got to the scene.

Omisanya said she could not confirmed if fetish items were found as alleged as the vehicle was set ablaze.

She said six other victims were rushed to the hospital.

“Two people died. A motor-cyclist and the driver. Other six persons have been rushed to the hospital.

“The young man died. He was not beaten to coma. He was killed and his vehicle set ablaze. Talks about fetish items are stories. There was no how our men could make any arrest in that situation.”
