Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service’s (NCS) Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja have apprehended a woman identified as Precious Yusuf for attempting to smuggle drugs to an inmate.
The suspect, Precious Yusuf disguised herself as a visitor to one of the inmates, but the correctional service officials apprehended her during a search, the FCT command spokesperson, Adamu Duza, said.
Duza said the suspect concealed the drugs in food packs.
Precious Yusuf admitted that they had sent her to deliver the drugs to an inmate.
“This occurred on Tuesday when the above-named lady disguised herself as a visitor to an inmate,” the statement reads. Officers from the Kuje Custodial Centre conducted a routine search and found items suspected to be Indian hemp and other dangerous substance concealed in food packs in a carton. The culprit admitted to delivering these items to a custodial centre inmate.
Ibrahim Usman, controller of the NCS FCT commander, ordered Precious Yusuf to be transferred to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution.
Spokesperson Duza stated that the controller warned those planning to perpetrate the same crime to desist.
Usman cautioned and warned drug peddlers to desist from trying to smuggle in illicit substances into the custodial centres under the guise of visits, as his officers and men are on alert to deflate such a plot, the statement added.
