The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka, has opened an investigation into a violent confrontation between a lecturer and a female student at the Faculty of Arts.
The incident began on Tuesday, February 11, when Dr. Chukwudi Michael interrupted the student’s video recording, which was believed to be for TikTok, by tapping her on the shoulder and saying “Excuse me.”
Eyewitnesses said the student became enraged and accused the lecturer of beating her. This led to a violent conflict in which the student forcibly seized the lecturer’s garments and bit him on the wrist and arm. Onlookers’ efforts to intercede proved ineffective, causing a ruckus in the vicinity.
A viral video circulating online confirms the incident, with the student dancing before being tapped by the lecturer. In response, the student expressed her anger, which escalated the situation into a physical fight.
In response to the incident, Njelita Louis O., UNIZIK’s Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, said that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu has ordered a thorough investigation to respect the institution’s basic values of discipline.
