Terror struck the Federal Polytechnic town of Oko, Anambra on Wednesday night as a violent gun battle between suspected rival cult groups left two people dead and two others abducted.

The chaos unfolded around 8:40pm at Total Junction and Tipper Junction in Orumba North LGA, sending residents into panic as gunmen opened fire indiscriminately.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers – armed and riding on a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV with no number plate – unleashed gunfire before abducting two individuals near Tipper Junction and fleeing the scene.

Security operatives, including the Police, Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and Vigilante groups, quickly moved in to secure the area. Two victims, including a female, were rescued and are currently receiving treatment in hospital. Several others sustained injuries during the shootout.

Confirming the incident, Anambra State Police PRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the force is working on credible leads and eyewitness accounts to track down the fleeing suspects.

“We’ve taken control of the scene. Our operatives, led by the Aguata Area Commander and supported by the Joint Security Task Force, are on ground for immediate action,” Ikenga stated.

Anambra residents are urged to remain calm as the manhunt continues. Authorities have promised swift action and justice for the victims.
