Travellers in the domestic terminals of Lagos and Abuja airports are currently stranded and unable to continue their journeys due to the statewide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Union and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria on Monday.
In viral videos making the rounds on social media, travellers can be seen with their luggage, stranded at the airports.
Also, the Transmission Company of Nigeria and other government organisations have been shut down to comply with the Union’s industrial strike action.
Chronicle NG reports that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the shutdown of the national grid, resulting in total blackouts nationwide.
In a press release signed by Ndidi Mbah, GM of Public Affairs of the TCN, on Monday, the TUC mentioned that the shutting down of the national grid is in response to the strike action embarked upon by organised labour.
The organised labour’s nationwide industrial action over minimum wage demand is started today (Monday).
The NLC and TUC called for an indefinite strike beginning Monday, June 3, after failing to reach an agreement with the government on a new minimum wage.
The organised labour unions they would strike if a new minimum wage was not agreed upon by the end of May.
