President Bola Tinubu has condemned the bomb attacks in Borno State’s Gwoza Local Government Area, which claimed lives and injured others.
According to reports, a horrific bomb blast killed at least 18 people and injured many more on Saturday during a wedding celebration in Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza town, Borno State.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, told newsmen that the bomber, later identified as a young woman in her early twenties, detonated her explosive device in the midst of the crowd, causing chaos and destruction.
According to intelligence sources, the casualties were all civilians returning from a wedding party when the attack took place near a large motorpark.
Emergency personnel rushed to the scene to rescue the injured and bring them to Gwoza’s hospitals. Saturday’s bomb strike is the first in years since Boko Haram began bombing raids across the country in 2009.
Notable raids included the bombings of the United Nations building in 2010 and the bustling Nyanya auto park in Abuja in 2014.
In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the President condemned the attacks as desperate acts of violence and a clear manifestation of the pressure applied to terrorists and the achievements achieved in reducing their ability to conduct offensives.
Tinubu declared that the perpetrators of violence would be prosecuted and that the heinous acts were merely an isolated incident, as his administration would not allow the country to descend into an era of dread, tears, sadness, and blood.
The statement added, “The President stated that his administration is taking necessary measures to secure citizens, emphasising that efforts will be redoubled to ensure that those who trouble the nation, dispatching precious lives, and disrupting law and order are completely removed.
“President Tinubu condoles with the victims of the attacks, the families of the deceased, as well as the government and people of Borno State.
