Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi, Chief Magistrate of the Iyaganku Family Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, ordered the remand of Kareem Mojeed, a tenant, on Wednesday after he reportedly defiled his landlord’s seven-year-old daughter.
The court ordered that the defendant be kept at the Agodi Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mojeed, whose address was not provided, was hauled before the court on a charge of defilement preferred by the police.
Ogunkanmi, who did not accept Mojeed’s plea, directed that the case file be duplicated and given to the DPP for advice.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, informed the court that Mojeed committed the crime on July 21 at 5:00 p.m.
According to Adedeji, the incident occurred in the Ebedi neighbourhood of Ibadan, in Oyo State.
The prosecutor also stated in court that the tenant enticed the girl into his room and defiled her.
Adedeji claims that the acts committed violated Section 34 of the Oyo State Child’s Rights Law of 2006.
