The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports claiming that the state’s Sole Administrator summoned suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, over appointments made in the last two years.
In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by Dede Sampson Friday, Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the government labelled the circulating reports as fake and intended to create unrest.
The statement read: “attempts to mislead the public, incite panic, and disrupt the peace in the state.”
It firmly denied that any such announcement came from the SSG’s office, urging the public to ignore the claims and remain vigilant against misinformation.
Friday stressed: “Official communications from the Rivers State Government are disseminated exclusively through verified channels, including the official government website, authorised social media handles, press releases from the Office of the Governor and the SSG, as well as approved traditional media outlets.”
He called on citizens to verify information before sharing, warning that such false narratives were being spread by individuals aiming to destabilise the state.
Rivers State has seen a rise in misinformation falsely credited to the Office of the SSG.
Residents have also expressed concern over the government’s slow response to such fake news and the lack of swift action against those responsible for spreading it.
