Emmanuel Friday Iraborie, a retired Superintendent of Police, has expressed dissatisfaction with the sum given to him as gratuity after 35 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force.
Iraborie, who retired from the Force Command in Edo State on July 1, 2024, claimed he received N2,870,451 in lump sum gratuity, which he described as “highly unacceptable.”
In a video that circulated online, the officer clearly stated his financial entitlements, indicating that his pension arrears totalled N706,915.
He said, “I am SP Emmanuel Friday Iraborie. I retired July 1st, 2024. My gratuity lump sum is N2.8m.
“Two million eight hundred and seventy-four thousand four hundred and fifty-one naira; my pension arrears are seven hundred and six thousand nine hundred and fifteen naira. I retired as Superintendent of Police in the Edo State Command on July 1st, 2024.
“That is unacceptable. For 35 years I served the Nigerian Police. I am given a gratuity of 2 million 800 thousand and 70 naira and 451 kobo.”
Iraborie’s accusation adds to the growing public criticism of how retired security personnel in Nigeria are treated, with many claiming they are underpaid and abandoned after decades of service.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force and the Pension Commission (PenCom) had yet to respond to the claims.
