Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed her heartfelt condolences to the families of children who lost their lives in a tragic stampede during a children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State.
She also wished those hospitalised swift recovery.
In a statement released on Thursday, December 19, 2024, the First Lady said, “I condole with the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Seyi Makinde, and the people of Oyo State on the tragedy that occurred on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, where the lives of many children were lost in a stampede.”
Tinubu further sympathised with the families and loved ones of the deceased, offering words of comfort and hope.
“I sympathise with the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased. I also pray for speedy recovery and total healing for those still in the hospital.
“May the Lord grant peace to Oyo State, comfort to the families who have lost their loved ones, and hope to those grieving at this time.
“My heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this devastating incident,” it read.
The stampede occurred on Wednesday at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, during a children’s funfair.
Attendees reportedly rushed to receive food and gifts, leading to overcrowding and inadequate crowd control measures.
The tragedy claimed multiple lives, mostly children, leaving families and the community in mourning.
