In Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, a police orderly (name withheld) was shot and killed.
Eyewitnesses claim that the tragic incident happened Friday night near the well-known Landmark hotel on Olu Obasanjo road.
When the male police inspector was being fired at, the attackers fled in a 2005 Toyota Corolla that was grey in colour. The male police inspector was accompanying his principal at the time.
The inspector’s AK-47 rifle and beret are said to have been stolen by the assailants.
In a brief statement given seen by Chronicle NG, the state’s Command spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the event.
The statement read, “Effort is ongoing to apprehend the evading hoodlums and recover the rifle.”
The inspector’s body has been taken to the Military Hospital in Port Harcourt, according to command’s spokesperson, for an autopsy.
