Maxwell Zubu, an inspector attached to the Rivers State Police Command, allegedly shot himself dead in Port Harcourt’s Eagle Island axis on Tuesday.
Zabu was reported to be a security detail for a former chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
Details of the occurrence were vague at the time of publishing this report, as the circumstances behind his death could not be determined immediately.
Our correspondent discovered that the incident was reported to the Eagle Island Police Station, which is part of the Azikiwe Police Division in Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt.
A police source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “Some policemen from the Azikiwe Police Division visited the scene as part of preliminary investigation procedures.”
Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesperson for the State Police Command, acknowledged the occurrence but did not provide further details.
She stated that an inquiry is ongoing to determine the immediate and remote causes of his death.
She stated, “Yes, I can confirm, but we have commenced an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident, and we will make our findings public.
“For now, the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for detailed investigation.”
