The police have been dispatched to rescue the 20 medical students who were kidnapped on the Otukpo-Otukpa-Enugu Road on Thursday evening.
SP Catherine Anene, the state police icommand’s spokesperson, told our correspondent on Friday that the command, along with other security agencies, had deployed officers to ensure the abducted medical students were rescued.
She said, “Yes, we have deployed officers to rescue the abducted medical students. It is definitely a joint force; police, in collaboration with other security agencies, were deployed.”
Anene also mentioned that the medical students were abducted around Ojano village, located along Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu Road.
The kidnappers on Friday demanded a N50 million ransom for the abducted students.
One of the kidnapped students, Kingsley Aondonai, a student of the prestigious University of Jos, UNIJOS, disclosed this in a tweet from captivity on Friday.
Crying for help, Aondona, who secretly tweeted from captivity, mentioned that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N50 million for all the abducted students.
He added that their abductors have also threatened to start killing them on Saturday if the ransom is not paid.
Aondona’s tweet reads, “We were kidnapped on our way to Enugu for a convention, @Nigerian_Doctor. They are requesting N50 million for 20 of us medical students. Please help us. We haven’t eaten for two days.
“Pius is who we are gathering the money with. They said they would start killing us tomorrow.”
