Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has disclosed that his sister, Atsi Kefas, was killed by a police escort attached to the vehicle in which they were traveling.

Speaking during a town hall meeting marking his second year in office, Governor Kefas stated that a preliminary police report indicated that Atsi died from severe gunshot wounds inflicted by one of the escorts.

He also assured the public that investigations are still ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and to ensure justice is served.

“Let me state this, for you to understand my commitment to you, that even in personal tragedy, such as the loss of my sister, Atsi Kefas, I remain strong because the call to serve you outweighs the pain,” the governor said.

He continued, “Join me to observe a minute of silence in her honour and also those killed in the Karim Lamido crisis, may their souls rest in peace.”

Giving more detail, Kefas explained, “However, in the case of my sister Atsi, preliminary police report revealed that she died as a result of severe gunshot injuries sustained from shots by one of the police escorts in the vehicle. Investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the circumstances so that justice will prevail.”

The governor used the moment to emphasize his commitment to progress in Taraba State, stressing that leadership is not about accolades but legacy and impact.

“You can see that this work is not for applause, it is for legacy, future and for you all. Please, let us in a positive spirit move Taraba forward.
In these two years, you can agree with me that Taraba is no longer at the sideline, we are leading with discipline, technology and good heart.
This is your time, this is your Taraba, let us rise together, believe again, let us move Taraba forward.”

He concluded with a firm statement on the direction of his administration: “I’m building the Taraba where governance is measured not by sentiment but by results. We are shifting from promises to result, every programme must deliver real value to our people.”

This is the first time the governor is publicly addressing the death of his sister, which was initially reported in December as an attack by bandits along the Wukari-Kente Road.

The town hall meeting also served as a platform for Governor Kefas to reiterate his administration’s progress and continued commitment to the development of Taraba State.
