The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended five teenagers for their alleged involvement in the death of a man following an argument during a wedding ceremony in Jauro Ali village.
The suspects, identified as Jauro Babawuro (17), Yayaji Bello (16), Baffaji Adamu (16), Babangida Dotti (18), and Yaya Bapati (17), were apprehended after a report was made by Dotti Manu, the victim’s father, from Wuro Wandara village.
Buhari Abdullahi, the police public relations officer, reported that the event occurred on December 21, 2024, around 10 p.m.
During the wedding ceremony, a disagreement between the suspects and the victim evolved into an attack with sticks.
“The victim’s father reported that on December 21, 2024, at about 2200 hrs, during a wedding ceremony, altercations ensued between his son and the suspects, resulting in the suspects using sticks to beat up the victim, who sustained internal injuries,” he said.
He revealed that the victim was admitted to Kowa Clinic Tongo for treatment but subsequently died.
The victim’s body has been delivered to General Hospital Bajoga for an autopsy.
“The case is currently under investigation, and the suspects will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” Abdullahi said.
The police also requested anyone with information about the crime to come forward.
“We are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case, and we will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Abdullahi stated.
Abdullahi also stated that the Gombe State Police Command is trying to ensure justice is served and that the community is safe from such heinous crimes.
