Caleb Mutfwang, the Governor of Plateau State, has terminated two commissioners who were recently reinstated after suspension, along with three others.
The dismissals were announced on Wednesday, and five new commissioner nominees were nominated to take their place.
Musa Ashoms, the Plateau state commissioner for information, verified the incident in Jos on Wednesday.
“Yes, it is true. Five commissioners have been removed. The governor has also nominated five new commissioners to replace them,” Ashoms stated.
The reasons for the decision were not provided by Ashoms.
However, a letter from the Secretary to the Plateau State Government, Samuel Jatau, confirmed the disengagement of the five commissioners, expressing gratitude for their service and wishing them well in their future endeavours.
The letter, signed by the SSG on Wednesday, reads, “His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mannaseh Mutfwang, has approved the disengagement of the following members from the State Executive Council: Hon. Sule Musa Haruna, Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Associate Prof. Obed Gossele Nanjul, Ministry of Science and Technology; Hon. Noel Naamiap Nkup, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development; Hon. Chrysantus Dawan, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning; and Hon. Jamila Tukur Bitrus, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality.”
The letter named the new commissioner nominees as Dr. Sunday Akpan from Bassa Local Government Area; Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, Mni, Langtang South; Arc. Sylvanus Dongtoe, Shendam; Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, Qua’anpan; and Cornelius Doeyok, also from Qua’anpan LGA.
“The Executive expresses his profound appreciation to those who served as Executive Council members and wishes them the best in their future endeavours,” the letter added.
The governor’s action came just three months after he rehabilitated two suspended commissioners: Chrysanthus Dawan of the Ministry of Budget and Jamila Tukur Bitrus of the Ministry of Tourism.
However, after a review and reconsideration of their performance, they were reinstated in October 2024, before being dismissed.
