Edo State’s governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, has accused outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki of obstructing a smooth transfer of power ahead of the November 12 end of Obaseki’s tenure.
On Friday, Obaseki alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is organising the inauguration of his successor without input from the state government, claiming he had not received an invitation to the event.
In response, Okpebholo’s media aide, Godspower Inegbe, claimed that Obaseki had used “every tool in his arsenal” to disrupt the handover process, accusing him of refusing to participate in transition protocols.
“Since Okpebholo’s victory, Obaseki has avoided any interaction with him, including a customary tour of Government House and a congratulatory call,” Inegbe said. “Obaseki’s claim of not being invited to the inauguration is both laughable and baseless.”
The letter asked Edo residents to disregard Obaseki’s “reckless statements” and rally behind the incoming administration to redress the “wrongs” of the current government.
