Former governor of Anambra State Peter Obi has condemned the upsurge of terrorism and kidnappings in Borno State.

Obi, in a statement on his X page on Friday, lamented that the attacks in Borno State ”are a grim reminder of the persistent security challenges facing our nation.”

It will be recalled that Chronicle NG reported that in a series of attacks, two worshippers were killed by suspected terrorists at Ekklesiyar Yanu’wa Church in Borno state’s Chibok Local Government Area.

In a separate attack, six soldiers died in a terrorist attack on January 4, 2025, at the Nigerian Army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State.

Speaking on the incidents, Obi mentioned that the ”tragedy highlights the urgent need for the government to intensify efforts to secure the country.”

He called for the federal government’s fight against terrorism to be ”resolute” in bringing ”the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice.”

Obi’s statement reads, ”The recent terrorist attack and ambush in Borno State, which claimed precious lives and left many missing, is a grim reminder of the persistent security challenges facing our nation.

”This tragedy highlights the urgent need for the government to intensify efforts to secure the country.

”The fight against terrorism must be resolute, and we urge those in authority to deploy all available resources to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice.

”Our security personnel on the frontlines must be adequately equipped, supported, and motivated to tackle these threats effectively.

”As a nation, we must rise above politics to confront this menace. Insecurity is not just a government challenge; it requires a united front from all stakeholders—community leaders, religious leaders, civil society, and every citizen.

”To the grieving families, no words can fully convey the depth of our sorrow for your loss. Your pain is shared by all Nigerians, and our thoughts and prayers are with you in this moment of profound grief.

”Together, we must remain steadfast in our resolve to build a secure and prosperous Nigeria.”
