The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has stated that he has resumed his position as the leader of the parliament.
Obasa disclosed this on Thursday after returning to parliament with police and State Security Service details for the first time since he was removed on January 13.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa said.
Chronicle NG reports that the impeached speaker stormed the Assembly complex on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
It was gathered that Obasa was in the company of some security officials and entered the Speaker’s Office around 12 noon on Thursday.
The development followed the withdrawal of the security aides of the Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
Chronicle NG reports that Meranda’s security details, including police officers, were withdrawn on Thursday morning.
A source close to the Speaker confirmed that Meranda was now vulnerable.
“All the speaker’s security aides have been withdrawn. All the security aides attached to the House of Assembly have also been withdrawn,” the source said, lamenting that “the speaker is now vulnerable.”
