The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an investigation into a runway accident involving a Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft operated by Allied Air.
In a statement signed on Wednesday by the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB, Bimbo Oladeji affirmed the bureau’s commitment to uncovering the causes of the incident.
NSIB has dispatched a specialised Go Team to conduct an on-site assessment, retrieve relevant data, and interview those involved.
According to the statement, “The NSIB has initiated an investigation to determine the causal and contributory factors that led to this incident. Our Go Team has been dispatched to the site to conduct an on-site assessment, recover relevant data, and interview involved parties,” it partly read.
Recall that the incident occurred at approximately 10:06 AM local time on Wednesday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The aircraft, identified by registration and nationality marks 5N-JRT and operating as flight AJK206 departed from Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.
Upon landing at Abuja’s Runway 22, it skidded off the right side into a grass verge. Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported among the crew or ground personnel. However, the aircraft sustained significant damage.
