The Niger State Police Command has detained Mubarak, who is suspected of being mentally disturbed, for fatally stabbing a 25-year-old man, Shamseen Danshehu.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening in the Kwangila suburb of Minna, the state capital, when Mubarak allegedly engaged Danshehu in a fisticuff, stabbing him in the chest.
He was taken to nearby Minna General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Residents who stated they didn’t know what prompted the brawl said they observed Mubarak roaming around the street, rummaging in waste bins of residents.
The Niger State police command, Wasiu Abiodun, was on Monday, and he confirmed the death of Danshehu.
He revealed that the suspect has been arrested by the police.
“It was reported that one Mubarak, who is suspected of insanity and also scavenging around Kwangila, had a fight with a passerby, Shamsu Danshehu, 25 years of the same area.
“During the fight, the said scavenger stabbed Shamsu on the chest with scissors.
“The victim was rushed to the general hospital but gave up the ghost in the hospital and was confirmed dead. The suspect was arrested for further investigation,” Abiodun said.
