The military leader of Niger has formed a new government in the country two weeks after the junta overthrow the Nigerien President, Mohamed Bazoum.
The military leader who announced the decree on national television on Thursday, selected 21 new ministers, led by Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine. Generals from the new military ruling council will assist the defense and interior ministries.
According to the announcement, Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Zeine will lead the “transitional” government alongside generals from the military government council.
The statement comes after coup forces in Niger accused French hosts of releasing detained terrorists and violating the country’s ban in an attempt to destabilize the country.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS) will be holding a meeting on Thursday in Abuja, Nigeria, to discuss further actions to take against the Nigerien Junta.
