The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged Senator Gbenga Daniel to immediately return to the coffers of the Ogun State treasury all the pensions and allowances he has collected from the State as former governor.
SERAP made this known in a statement announced on its Twitter handle on Friday, July 7, 2023.
This comes after the former governor, in a letter titled “Request to Suspend My Monthly Pension and Allowances,” urged the incumbent Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, to stop with immediate effect the monthly pension and allowances being paid to him.
However, SERAP, which is “devoted to promoting transparency, accountability, and respect for socio-economic rights in Nigeria”, further urged Sen. Daniel to return all the entitlements he has enjoyed as pension and allowances.
The statement reads: “Following the decision by Senator Gbenga Daniel to stop collecting unlawful pensions from Ogun State, we urge him to immediately return to the public treasury all the pensions and allowances he has collected as former governor”.
It will be noted that SERAP has, over the years, spearheaded the campaign for former governors who proceed to the upper chamber of the legislative house to stop collecting pensions and allowances from their respective states.
