The Lagos Chapter of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Alumni Association has ushered in a transformative era with the election of Gafar Odubote as Chairman, alongside eleven other executive members.
The election, held last Saturday in Lagos during the association’s Biennial General Meeting (BGM), saw an impressive turnout of members from diverse professional fields.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in him and pledged to reinvigorate alumni engagement through expanded outreach and active participation across sectors. Odubote outlined plans to establish a structured funding framework for impactful alumni projects, alongside introducing mentorship programmes, networking opportunities, and business support initiatives to empower members.
Highlighting his administration’s priorities, Odubote emphasised infrastructural development, scholarships, and student mentorship. He assured members of his commitment to elevating the association’s visibility and influence within and beyond the MAPOLY community, calling for unity in achieving shared aspirations.
The outgoing Chairman, Olusegun Rufus, presented a comprehensive handover report, reflecting on the chapter’s resilience amid challenges. He noted that alumni dues and voluntary fundraising had sustained the association’s activities and urged the new leadership to build on these foundations. Rufus reaffirmed his unwavering support for the incoming team.
Olalekan Otun, a former National President of the Lagos Chapter, voiced confidence in the new leadership, praising their dynamism and dedication as catalysts for progress. He encouraged MAPOLY alumni nationwide to invest in their alma mater through initiatives such as hostel construction and strategic partnerships to bolster the 46-year-old institution.
The newly elected executive comprises: Ms Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion (Vice Chairperson), Mr Steven Eyanimo (Secretary), Mr Ayodokun Waheed (Assistant Secretary), Mr Adekunle Okunowo (Treasurer), Mr Ibubukun Awoseye (Financial Secretary), Mr Tobilola Adeboye (Assistant Financial Secretary), Mr Olusegun Koiki (Public Relations Officer), Ms Omowunmi Akisanmi (Welfare Director), and Ms Olushola Adewunmi (Chief Whip). Pastor Samuel Kehinde and Mr Olusegun Rufus were elected as Ex-Officio members.
The election was overseen by Mr Tolu Ojemuyiwa, a former Chapter Chairman and Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), alongside Alhaji Goke Ishola (representing the national body) and Hon. Cyrus Johnson. Ojemuyiwa commended the transparent and orderly electoral process, which adhered strictly to constitutional guidelines.
The event drew notable alumni, including Hon. Lanre Oyegbola, Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, alongside distinguished professionals from various industries. With a renewed mandate, the new leadership is poised to redefine alumni engagement, fostering stronger connections and driving meaningful contributions to both the association and the wider MAPOLY community.
