The Lagos State Water Corporation has announced compensation for a large number of staff who have been disengaged from the corporation.

The business announced this in a statement issued on Friday by its spokeswoman, Kehinde Fashola.

The amalgamated union of public corporation, civil service, technical, and recreational service employees protested the firing of nearly 300 LWC employees on Wednesday.

Protesters, supported by other workers’ unions and civil society groups, marched from Ikeja Underbridge to the state House of Assembly in Alausa, demanding that the layoffs be reversed and the business administered democratically.

In a statement headed ‘Lagos Water Corporation fulfils commitment, pays compensation, and other benefits to disengaged personnel,’ Fashola revealed that the LWC Managing Director, Mukhtaar Tijani, verified the payment of compensation to the impacted workers on Friday.

Tijani expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the state government for the “prompt payment of three months’ notice pay and two months’ severance compensation to affected staff, thereby alleviating the impact of the current situation.”

According to Fashola, Mukhtaar expressed sorrow for the employees and stated that the ongoing restructuring was critical to moving the firm ahead and recovering its former prestige.
