The candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 governorship election in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has stated that Lagos State is not the ”birthright” of President Bola Tinubu.
Gbadebo made the remark while speaking on the impeachment of the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
Chronicle NG reports that Obasa, the longest-serving speaker of the Assembly, was impeached by lawmakers on Monday, citing misappropriation of funds as the reason for the unanimous decision.
Speaking on the development, Gbadebo, in a statement on X on Monday, alleged that Obasa’s removal was as a result of his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Gbadebo, in his statement, alleged that the Lagos Assembly simply danced to Tinubu’s tune.
He mentioned that politicians under the All Progressive Congress, APC, ”exist solely to further” Tinubu’s ”interest and that of his family.”
However, the Labour Party chieftain maintained that ”Lagos is bigger than” Tinubu and ”we must remind him that Lagos is not his to bequeath.”
Gbadebo’s statement reads, ”It’s interesting that the EFCC just realised the corruption of APC Lagos politicians. It is not a coincidence that they all have the ambition to become the next governor.
”Your principal has just indirectly communicated that Lagos is his birthright and that of his descendants, and every aspiring APC politician exists solely to further his interest and that of his family.
”I have said this before and will say it again. Lagos is bigger than him, and we must remind him that Lagos is not his to bequeath.”
