The kidnappers of the 20 medical students who were abducted in Benue State on Thursday have demanded a N50 million ransom.
One of the kidnapped students, Kingsley Aondona, a student of the University of Jos, UNIJOS, disclosed this in a tweet from captivity on Friday.
Crying for help, Aondona, who secretly tweeted from captivity, mentioned that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N50 million for all the abducted students.
He added that their kidnappers have also threatened to start killing them on Saturday if the ransom is not paid.
Aondona’s tweet reads, “We were kidnapped on our way to Enugu for a convention, @Nigerian_Doctor. They are requesting N50 million for 20 of us medical students. Please help us. We haven’t eaten for two days.
“Pius is who we are gathering the money with. They said they would start killing us tomorrow.
The victims, who are students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were heading to Enugu for the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention.
Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the abduction, stating that a full investigation has been launched to locate the missing students and bring the perpetrators to justice. Police and security agencies are actively working on the case, urging anyone with information to come forward.
“Yes, the report of the kidnapping is true. It was received between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and an investigation is ongoing,” she said.
