On Friday, Chigozie, a 24-year-old commercial tricycle operator, was apprehended with his girlfriend’s corpse while attempting to dispose of it in the bush.

The suspect, who is from Ajata Ibeku in the state’s Umuahia North Local Government Area, said that his late lover died after she refused his desire for intercourse.

Luck, however, ran out on him when he was going to dispose of the corpse of his girlfriend, Beauty, when he was apprehended by some vigilant youths.

The suspect would have been lynched by a mob if the police had not intervened in time.

According to the suspect, he wanted intercourse from his girlfriend in the evening when she visited him, but she declined, stating that she was not ready.

According to him, her hesitation resulted in a brief struggle during which she unintentionally smacked her head on the wall & slumped.

He acknowledged to dating the victim, who was from Oboro in the Ikwuano Local Government Area, for two years.

Meanwhile, youths from the neighborhood who spotted him with the corpse and suspected foul play followed him to the bush where he planned to dump the body and confronted him.

They eventually carried her body to the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

“We decided to follow him without his notice until he entered inside the bush to dump the body. Then we caught him red-handed.” an eye witness said.

Another said: “She was his girlfriend and they were fighting. Suddenly, she tripped and hit her face on the floor. The guy didn’t remove any body part”.

Attempts to obtain a reaction from the police were futile because the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Maureen Chinaka, did not answer her phone.

Attempts to get Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, to comment on the issue were abortive at the time of filing this report.
