The Kebbi State Police Command has begun enforcing third-party motor insurance across the state, as directed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The idea aims to implement mandatory motor insurance while also enhancing road safety.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, and made available to journalists, the enforcement operation, which began on February 1, 2025, is closely monitored by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, who personally oversees compliance efforts in the state capital.
“Area Commanders have also been directed to implement similar measures in their respective jurisdictions,” the statement added.
CP Bello M. Sani, the Commissioner of Police, emphasised the significance of third-party insurance in protecting motorists and road users.
He urged vehicle owners to keep their insurance policies up to date to avoid sanctions. Enforcing third-party motor insurance is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s strategy to regulate road use and reduce financial risk.
CSP Abubakar emphasised the command’s commitment to enforcing the law and maintaining compliance.
He urged locals to comply with law enforcement personnel, reminding them that the exercise was for the benefit of public safety and order.
Motorists in Kebbi State should get proper third-party insurance as soon as possible, as failure to do so may result in penalties under current rules.
