Social media influencer Mahdi Shehu has described the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the main reason responsible for the “tragedies” in Nigeria.
Shehu made the claim in a statement on his X page on Wednesday while comparing the 2023 general election in Nigeria to the US presidential election.
Shehu, who accused the electoral body of “Complacency, fraud, deliberate breach of the law, and human greed,” lamented the delay by the Commission in counting votes cast in the election in a bid to rig the election.
He bemoaned that the US election, which declared Republican candidate Donald Trump as the winner, took the US less time to count votes cast.
Shehu said, “Between the 2023 Nigerian presidential election, and the U.S. 2024 presidential election, INEC is responsible for most of our current tragedies.
“It took INEC 5 days to count 25 million votes said to have been cast during the 2023 infamous and fraudulent elections.
“It took. U.S. election body 9 hours, 45 minutes to count 155 million votes cast and declared an acceptable winner.
“Complacency, fraud, deliberate breach of the law, and human greed can be clearly distilled from INEC’s actions, inactions, and reactions before, during, and after the elections.”
Nigerian president Bola Tinubu of the APC was declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election, defeating Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
