Following the collapse of a 21-storey building in Ikoyi, Lagos state, the owner of the structure has been reportedly arrested by the Lagos State government.
The State Government said that the owner was given the approval to construct only 15 floors.
The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki revealed this on Monday, few hours after the grim incident.
Chronicle NG reported that the building which is located at 20, Gerrard Road gave way at about 2:45 p.m on Monday.
Oki disclosed that the owner has been apprehended and would be prosecuted.
“The materials he used for the reinforcement are so terrible. He got approval for 15 floors but built 21. He has been arrested,” he said.
It was gathered that four persons have been rescued while three have been confirmed dead.
Rescue efforts have intensified since the incident as dozens of site workers were present at the location when the building collapsed.
The building was billed to be completed in 2022.
