The House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee will on Thursday grill Ibrahim Lamuwa, the suspended Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who has been accused of sexual harassment.
A few weeks ago, Simisola Ajayi filed a suit with the Office of the Head of Service to the Federation, accusing the Permanent Secretary of sexual harassment.
Ajayi works as an advisor to Mr. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The HoS, Folasade Yemi-Esan, established a probe panel after receiving the petition against the permanent secretary, and she suspended Lamuwa pending the conclusion of the investigation.
On Wednesday, Hon. Oluwole Oke, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, said, “He (Lamuwa) will appear before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday.”
According to the petition, Lamuwa contacted Ajayi on October 7, 2023, at the first retreat to discuss President Bola Tinubu’s 4D programme and asked why she did not spend the night at the hotel following the event.
According to the appeal, the permanent secretary advised Ajayi that he would like her to visit his room after the ceremony.
She was alleged to have declined the invitation, stating that she was a nursing mother and needed to return home to care for her infant. On May 27, 2024, Tuggar informed Yemi-Esan of the allegations against the Permanent Secretary.
In June, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) summoned Ajayi to testify about the allegations.
