Five people were slain by suspected armed herdsmen in Benue State’s Gwer West Local Government Area.
The deaths took place on Sunday in two separate attacks along the seaside settlements of Ter Gamber and Camp Nagi in the Mbachohon district of the local government.
According to a resident who spoke to Chronicle NG about ten suspected armed herders assaulted Tse Gamber in Sengev Council ward on Sunday morning, firing erratically and killing three people.
The source went on to say that the terrorists departed Gamber and went to Camp Nagi in Mbachohon Council Ward, a community along the Naka-Agagbe Road, where they opened fire on innocent citizens, killing two.
According to the source, the unjustified attacks have caused many residents to flee in fear of another attack, and many settlements in the general region are not secure, as they have called on security services to deploy to the area to prevent more attacks.
Although the remains of those slain were subsequently taken from the scene of the attacks, inhabitants of Gamber and Camp Nagi in Mbachohon have fled their houses.
Meanwhile, the Benue Police command Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, confirmed the incident that killed two of her relatives.
