Gunmen believed to be kidnappers raided the Chikakore region of Kubwa, located in the Bwari region Council of the Federal Capital Territory, in the early hours of Monday.

According to reports, four residents were abducted by the gunmen during the incident.

Eyewitnesses stated that the gunmen came in large numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons, and caused panic among residents.

A security official in the area, speaking anonymously, confirmed the abductions, saying, “The attack happened this morning, but for now, we have only been able to confirm the abduction of four persons.”

The police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, stating that the kidnappers disguised themselves as vigilante members.

The four abducted individuals were from the same family, and a neighbour who attempted to intervene was injured.

Adeh explained, “On January 27, 2025, at about 1:00 am, the FCT Police Command received a distress call regarding a case of abduction and assault in the Chikakore community. FCT Police operatives were swiftly deployed to the scene.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that seven unknown men, disguised as vigilante members and armed with machetes and sticks, attacked the residence of the victims. The suspects deceived the victim into opening his gate, after which they abducted him and three members of his family. A neighbour who tried to intervene sustained injuries during the attack and was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for medical attention.”

Adeh also stated that the police had launched a search and rescue operation aimed at recovering the victims and apprehending the gunmen.

She added, “The FCT Police Command has commenced a comprehensive search and rescue operation to ensure the safe recovery of the abducted victims and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“We urge residents of the Chikakore community and the general public to remain calm and vigilant. Any useful information that could assist the investigation and rescue efforts should be promptly reported to the police.”
