The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that rebellious drivers’ permits will be revoked going forward.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed made the announcement on Friday in Abuja while briefing reporters on the results of the 2024 Eid-el Kabir Special Patrol Operations, which took place from Friday, June 14, to Sunday, June 23.
He stated that the Corps had become increasingly aware of the importance of collective engagement and collaboration among all stakeholders.
Mohammed further stated that the Corps used this as a vital variable tool to help achieve the miles logged throughout the times under review.
According to him, one of the most important of these operations is the continuing interagency joint task force to reduce trailer driver excesses.
He said, “Enforcing compliance on the indiscriminate use of trailers to convey human beings.
“This also includes aggressive public enlightenment, robust media engagement, and aggressive advocacy campaigns carried out in motor parks across the Federation.
“Finally, there was also the identification and mapping of strategic routes across the country and the effective deployment of appropriate personnel and logistics to cover them.”
The FRSC chairman stated that the Corps had a strong relationship with the leadership of the various transport unions and security agencies.
Mohammed stated that this includes state traffic management agencies and the FCT Department of Road Traffic Services.
He said, “All these were done to ensure that every stakeholder, both in the public and private sectors, plays a cardinal role in entrenching safety on the highways.
“On the strength of the foregoing, may I bring to your attention that we have added to the conventional enforcement of traffic regulations on articulated vehicles?
“We have gone a step further by commencing prosecution of recalcitrant drivers through Mobile Court operations in the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT.
“Subsequently, more drastic measures, including suspension and withdrawal of the national driver’s license, will be carried out.”
Prior to the start of the 2024 Sallah special patrol, the FRSC Corps Marshal discussed the mileage to be achieved in terms of reducing the number of road traffic crashes.
These include fatalities, injuries, and traffic violations on the nation’s highways.
