Cable installations have been destroyed as fire engulfed the popular AP Plaza in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja.
The incident, which happened on Saturday, caused serious damages to properties and raised safety concerns among residents and business owners in the area.
In a statement on Sunday, the FCT Fire Service confirmed that the Federal Fire Service assisted in putting out the fire.
“A fire outbreak occurred on the sixth floor of a six-story commercial building at AP Plaza. The affected area included the MTN control room shelter, resulting in significant damage to cable installations,” the statement read.
“The emergency response was led by DSF Ahmed Ibrahim Katsina, DFO of Asokoro Fire Station. The FCT Fire Service, along with support from the Federal Fire Service, successfully extinguished the fire by 11:41 hrs.”
Fortunately, there were no casualties.
The Ag Director of FCT Fire Service, Adebayo Amiola Zacchaeus, also commended the swift and coordinated efforts of the firefighters.
He highlighted the importance of taking proactive fire safety measures as the dry season approaches, stressing that the upcoming harmattan period could pose an increased risk for fire outbreaks.
