Former President Muhammadu Buhari has passed away.

The news was confirmed on Sunday afternoon by his former spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu.

According to Shehu, “Buhari died on Sunday at a hospital in the United Kingdom.”

Details surrounding the circumstances of his death have not yet been made public.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, had been living in the UK following his handover to President Bola Tinubu.

His death comes amid national conversations about leadership transitions and the health of former African leaders abroad.

More information is expected as family members and government officials prepare official statements and burial arrangements.
