Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are currently in Akure, to prevent vote buying in the ongoing governorship election in Ondo state.
“Operatives are all over the state in line with the mandate of the Commission to prevent, investigate, and prosecute all forms of economic and financial crimes,” Spokesman Dele Oyewale disclosed this on Saturday in a statement.
The EFCC operatives were spotted at several polling units in the state.
Chronicle NG reports that the election is taking place across 3,933 polling units in the 18 LGAs of Ondo State.
Prior to the election, there were reports that some political parties were planning to influence voters’ choices with cash.
The election started at about 8:30 am in several polling units, while some places experienced delays due to the late arrival of election materials.
Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) are the frontrunners in the election.
