The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2024 Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, has expressed satisfaction in the turnout of voters who came out en masse to exercise their franchise.
In a statement on X on Saturday, Ighodalo applauded the good people of EDo State for coming out to exercise their constitutional rights.
He made the statement after casting his vote at his voting centre, Okaigben Ward 1, Unit 3, situated in Idinrio Primary School, Okaigben, Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The PDP aspirant arrived at the polling booth at about 10:33 am, a few minutes after INEC’s officials arrived.
He, alongside his wife, Ifeyiwan Ebosetale Ighodalo, cast their ballot at Okaigben Ward 1, Unit 3, Idinrio Primary School, Okaigben, Ewohimi.
The couple were accredited at about 12.03 pm for voting at Okaigben Ward 1, unit 3, Idinrio Primary School, Okaigben, Ewohimi.
After exercising his franchise, Ighodalo, in a statement on X, said, “My wife, brother, other family members, and I took our turns to exercise our civic rights by casting our votes at our Polling Unit 3 ward 1, Idiro Okaigben, Ewohimi, Esan South East LGA.
“I am impressed with the turnout of voters, but INEC really needs to step up their game. I believe strongly that the preparation for an off-cycle should be better to forestall some of the delays we witnessed today.”
However, the PDP candidate expressed dissatisfaction over the late arrival of voting materials while noting that the time is still within the allotted voting time.
He is battling against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Monday Ekpobholo, for the voters in Edo Central Senatorial District, where both candidates hail from.
The Edo Central Senatorial District comprises Esan South-East, Igueben and Esan North East, Esan West, and Esan Central LGAs.
