The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Basiru, has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Osun state, claiming that the governor, Ademola Adeleke, has grounded local government administration in the state.
Basiru’s call for a state of emergency comes after Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers state on Tuesday, March 18.
Tinubu announced the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, Mrs Ngozi Nma Odu and the Rivers State House of Assembly. The president also appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd) as the sole administrator of Rivers state.
Reacting to the news, Basiru urged the president to replicate the same in Osun state where Tinubu’s nephew, Adegboyega Oyetola was ousted as governor by the incumbent, Adeleke.
“We also want to use this opportunity to call on the Federal Government to also declare the same State of Emergency in Osun State, Basiru told The Sun.
“The government has grounded local government administration despite the Court of Appeal decision and the advice by the Attorney General,” he added.
Adeleke is a member of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party and is expected to seek a second term in office.
