Justice Nyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has validated the legitimacy of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate as legitimately issued by the corps.
Justice Ekwo ruled on Monday that the information presented to the court revealed that the governor was mobilised for duty in 2001 but finished it in 2003.
According to the court, Mbah requested and received authorization from the NYSC to attend the Nigeria Law School midway during his service in 2003.
While the evidence that Mbah worked at the legal practise of one Udeh was not questioned by the NYSC, Justice Ekwo chastised the corps for not prosecuting the governor for forgery if they truly thought that they did not grant the abovementioned NYSC certificate to him.
He came to the conclusion that the NYSC was deceitful and behaved in bad faith by refusing Mbah’s NYSC certificate.
The court, after finding the Director General and the NYSC guilty of misrepresenting important facts, granted them N5 million in damages.
