A multi-story building collapsed on Oremeta Street in Lagos State’s Ojodu-Berger axis on Saturday, trapping an unidentified number of persons beneath the wreckage.
The ill-fated structure, which was reportedly under construction, also housed the well-known EqualRight Restaurant.
According to eyewitness accounts, the collapse occurred at roughly 8 am, catching inhabitants and passersby by surprise.
An eyewitness who spoke with reporters on the condition of anonymity said the cause of the collapse was unknown, but admitted that the building was a “bomb waiting to explode.”
“Anyone who knows that building should know that it was a bomb waiting to explode. I hardly go there to buy food because I was always scared the building would collapse while I’m there.
“Right now, we cannot ascertain how many people are trapped under the rubbles, but emergency responders have begun rescue operations”, the source said.
However, the source stated that agents from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency had arrived at the scene and had commenced rescue operations while waiting for other government authorities.
As rescue efforts continue, concerned residents and onlookers have gathered at the scene, eagerly awaiting word on the fate of those trapped within.
