The trial of Andrew Ominikoron, a driver for Lagos State Bus Rapid Transport, who is charged with raping and killing Oluwabamise Ayanwole, a 22-year-old fashion designer, has been postponed to March 3, 2025, in order to adopt a final written address, according to a Lagos State High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square.
The date was set by trial judge Justice Sherifat Sonaike after defence attorney Mr. Abayomi Omotubora was not present.
In order to accept the final written address, the court also postponed the case until February 10, 2025, on the last date of adjournment, which was January 30, 2025.
In the case of Omotubora, who was absent due to illness, the court postponed the case to November 29, 2024.
Omotubora was not present when the case reopened on Monday; therefore, the court decided to postpone it until March 3, 2025.
The Lagos State Government has filed four charges against Ominikoron, including conspiracy, rape, and murder of Bamise.
He was charged with raping and killing his passenger along the Lekki-Ajah Conservation Motorway on February 26, 2022, and was presented in court in March 2022.
Ominnikoron conspired with other people who are currently at large to rape and kill Bamise, his 22-year-old passenger, the prosecution informed the court.
According to the prosecution, on February 26, 2022, at around 7 p.m., the defendant killed Ayanwole between Carter Bridge and Lekki Ajah Motorway after engaging in sexual activity with her without getting her permission.
On February 26, 2022, one Ayanwole was unlawfully killed by the defendant and other people now at large when they threw her from a moving bus between Carter Bridge and the Lekki-Ajah Motorway.
Ominnikoron conspired with other people who are currently at large to rape and kill his 22-year-old passenger, the prosecution informed the court.

The prosecution claims that the offences violated Sections 411, 223, 260, and 165 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law.
Ominnikoron, however, entered a not guilty plea to the accusations made against him.
