Patrick Mba, Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, and his wife were released by their captors after only one day in captivity.
On Saturday night, a credible top government official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, informed our correspondent of the development, adding that the commissioner and his wife had recovered their freedom.
“The kidnapped Commissioner of Youth Development and his wife have been released today. To God be the glory. The state government will soon issue a statement on that,” the source added.
On Friday, several gunmen kidnapped the commissioner and his wife at an undisclosed spot along the Edo-Kogi Motorway on their way to Abuja to attend the wedding of Adaora, the daughter of the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Saturday.
They were reported to be travelling in a commercial Toyota Sienna bus with other passengers.
According to reports, one of the commissioner’s assistants, who was also travelling with him, was slain in the process.
The Anambra state government has yet to release an official comment regarding the development.
