The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has won 30 chairmanship seats, leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) with one seat.
AniediAbasi Ikoiwak, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission, signed the list on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Governor Umo Eno has announced intentions to swear in the newly elected chairmen on Monday, October 7, 2024.
This followed AKISIEC’s decision to give certificates of return to all elected council chairs on Sunday.
Eno, speaking at the All Nations Christian Ministry in Eket, stated that it was critical to swiftly inaugurate democratically elected leaders in order to position the state’s local government areas for speedy development.
“Election was concluded yesterday. Results are trickling in. We are swearing in new chairmen tomorrow by 8 a.m. We want to thank those who have served. They have done well.
“The window we negotiated with the Federal Government was till October, and this is October. So we need to quickly swear in those chairmen so that they will start receiving their allocations and work for their people,” he said.
