Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi on Sunday, visited the Lekki residence of the late Afenifere leader, Pa Ayodele Adebanjo, extend their condolences to his family.

The visit came two days after the death of the 96-year-old Yoruba socio-cultural leader, who passed away on Friday at his Lagos home.

Other notable visitors included former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel, Labour Party’s Lagos governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi.

In an X post, Rhodes-Vivour described the visit as an opportunity to honour the late statesman and pray for the family.

“Earlier today, we joined the Adebanjo family in thanksgiving and prayers for God’s comfort and strength for the family,” he wrote. “Pa Adebanjo lived a full life and was always excited to share his values, vision, and ideology with the next generation. He was a principled man who embodied the ideals of equity, justice, and true federalism. We celebrate a life of impact, a life lived to the fullest.”

On Friday, Obi described Adebanjo’s death as a profound loss to the country, saying he was a steadfast advocate for a united and progressive Nigeria.

He also recalled how Adebanjo supported his presidential ambition.

“I remain deeply grateful for his support during my presidential campaign. His endorsement was not merely a political gesture but a testament to his belief in the ideals of equity and inclusiveness. He stood firm in his convictions against all odds, demonstrating his dedication to the greater good of Nigeria.

“May his death not be in vain. Instead, let it serve as a renewed call to action for all who believe in justice and fairness. As we extend our condolences to his immediate family and the Afenifere organisation, may we find solace in the enduring impact of his remarkable life,” said Obi.

Pa Adebanjo, a prominent advocate for restructuring and true federalism in Nigeria, was a key voice in the country’s political landscape and a lifelong defender of Yoruba interests.
