At least two yet-to-be-identified students from Borno State University have been killed in a tragic road accident involving the school staff bus and a truck on Njimtilo Road on Wednesday.
Chronicle NG gathered from the state police command that three other students were in critical condition after the crash.
Nahum Kenneth, the spokesperson for the command, informed our correspondent that a large truck collided with the university bus, leaving several other students with varying degrees of injury.
Our correspondent gathered that the victims were quickly taken to the Umaru Shehu Specialist Hospital, where they are receiving medical care.
It was also discovered that the incident caused severe damage to the bus, and emergency services quickly transported the injured to a hospital.
Kenneth said, “The bus carrying 30 students along Njimtilo Road was involved in a fatal accident with a truck.”
“A male and a female student lost their lives, while three others are currently unconscious at the hospital. Efforts are underway to provide care for the injured.
“Around 20 other students are receiving treatment for injuries of varying severity, while other students escaped the accident unscathed.”
This comes after no fewer than 14 people have been killed in an accident along the Tage Bridge in the Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
On Monday, a vehicle carrying passengers crashed, killing multiple people. Eyewitnesses described the scene as gruesome, with many bodies scattered.
The state police command confirmed the accident through their public relations officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam.
In a conversation with our correspondent, Adam disclosed that the driver of the vehicle survived the crash and is now supporting authorities with investigations to determine the reason for the tragedy.
“The identities of the victims have not been released, pending notification of their families,” he said.
