One person was killed in an accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Saturday morning.
The collision included a small truck (MUS 489 XS) and a Toyota Camry (KRD 470 JD).
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by excessive speeding during a downpour this morning,” the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said in a statement.
Mr. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, stated in a statement signed by Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, that three other people were rescued at the accident scene.
He stated that LASTMA personnel responded quickly to the mishap, which occurred at the Unilag shoreline and headed towards the Iyana-Oworonsoki area of Lagos.
Giwa stated that despite the government’s ongoing push to educate motorists on speed restrictions, drivers continued to violate the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
He asked commercial bus drivers and individual automobile owners to obey speed limits on the Third Mainland Bridge and other roads across the state. Goes stated that the deceased were quickly taken by State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) authorities, while LASTMA cleared the accident vehicles to ensure smooth traffic movement on the bridge.
He expressed his sympathies to the relatives of the deceased and stressed the significance of road safety.
